GIVEAWAY: Win A $25 Gift Card To Mimi's Cafe

The Mimi's Cafe chain is offering a new Family Meals To-Go menu, and is letting me give away a $25 gift card so that one of my readers can try it out.

All you have  to do is leave a comment on this blog telling me which or the Mimi's entrees you would order if you won.

There's no one correct answer, since there are ten different entrees -- Oven Fresh Pot Roast, Slow Roasted Turkey Breast, Grilled Meatloaf, Chicken Tenders, Chicken Parmesan, Jambalaya, Cajun Chicken Alfredo, Garlic Shrimp Fettuccini, Mediterranean Chicken Fettuccine and Meatloaf Stroganoff. There are four to five servings in each take-out entree, and a choice of a quart of soup, or a garden or Caesar salad, for $25. ( If you win and use the card, you'll have to plan on paying the taxes.)

Mimi's invited me to check it out for myself.  I called the Layton Mimi's Cafe and asked if I could do a half-and-half order, because I was trying to hopscotch between two different family members' preferences. The manager said sure, they could do that (but I don't guarantee that all Mimi's would be willing to do it).  One was Garlic Shrimp Fettucini with plump, meaty shrimp, lots of noodles, and a  slightly tomato-y sauce with capers.
The Mediterranean Chicken Fettucine had chunks of chicken tossed with spinach, bits of rich sun-dried tomatoes, amd chopped artichoke hearts in an tomato asiago cream sauce.  To go with it, I ordered the Cafe Corn Chowder, which is almost a meal in itself. It's full of  potato chunks, and that sweet creamed-corn flavor.

One-fifth of the entree along with  a cup of the chowder (or the salad, if you ordered that instead) would probably satisfy most appetites. But if you've got some hearty eaters in your family, it might not stretch that far -- maybe three or four servings. You can also add-on sides of vegetables, bread, brownie bites, quiche, soup, and so on for $3-5 each. If you are a Mimi's eClub member, you can get a free side when you buy a Family Meal To Go, for a limited time.

Studies have shown positive results when families sit down to dinner -- healthier eating habits, closer relationships, positive attitudes, and so on. But there's no rule that says the meal has to be a cooked-from-scratch, right?  Nowadays there are so many different dinner options to choose from, and restaurants are stepping up to the dinner plate with take-out menus.

So, leave me a comment and win a $25 gift card for Mimi's!  You have until Oct. 6. You don't have to leave your full name on the comment; your first name or some type of identifying nickname is fine.

I will put all the names in a hat and draw one winner on October 6, noon.  Please check back that day, because I'll be posting the winner on my blog. The winner will have  48 hours to e-mail me at vphillips@hotmail.com with your full name and address so I can drop the gift card in the mail to you.  If I don't hear from you, I will name another winner.

And, don't be dismayed if your comment doesn't immediately appear.  My blog is set up so that the comments have to be approved by me before they are posted.

Well this sounds like alot of fun!! I'm stuck out here in Grantsville where we have 3 choices to eat- It would be alot of fun to branch out and try something good. From the sounds of it sounds like the classic homemade small cafe-diner that is mouth watering and the service is good and friendly- something you don't see that much anymore. Thanks for sharing and maybe I'll venture out and try this!! And on a rainy day like today soup and salad sound real good.

We love the food but haven't been back for awhile. The corn chowder is wonderful. I glad I just found your blog today! I have read your column for years and it's nice you are still in print.

I love the breakfast 2 egg & ham. I want to be considered for the $25.00 gift contest. Hubby unemployed and we seldom get to eat out. This would be so helpful. I love Mimi's and especially when it gives the nutritional breakdown of what you're ordering.

I shouldn't try to answer when I'm starving because I'd like one of each. But I guess I'll pick the roast turkey.

The Fresh Oven Pot Roast is hitting the mark tonight! Yep, that's what I'd try, especially since I don't cook much now the kids are gone.
